My name is Mina Martina Young. I am a physical therapist with strong manual therapy skills and a passion for treating the patient as a whole: like a garden in which all the elements are interconnected and interdependent. While working in the hospital setting, I noticed that a vast majority of patients who presented with symptoms of fibromyalgia, chronic pain/fatigue syndrome and active autoimmune flare ups, have a history of unprocessed trauma. Somatic presentation of emotional pain is not
uncommon, yet vastly overlooked. I use somatic based treatments (yoga and gentle somatic yoga GSY) together with sound to help patients connect with their body. Gentle somatic yoga, for example, has several flows that help with pelvic floor projects. One of the fundamental GSY principles is the sensory motor amnesia or SMA. SMA is often the culprit of a distorted motor map and a driver behind chronic pain.
The feedback I have been given most frequently by patients is that I help them feel seen, understood and empowered to take charge of their own health. I feel inspired to shift the paradigm of health care. I like to assist patients with reclaiming their sovereignty and autonomy, which is a fundamental step on the path of healing the collective.
My skill set includes but is not limited to Therapeutic and Functional Dry Needling, Manual therapy, Sport Performance, Postural/Movement analysis and correction. I am an apprentice of pelvic floor and abdominal PT specialist.
